Kangana Ranaut and her sister Rangoli Chandel have moved the Supreme Court seeking transfer of criminal cases pending in various courts in Mumbai to Himachal Pradesh courts.

Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut and her sister Rangoli Chandel have moved the Supreme Court. Kangana Ranaut has asked the Supreme Court to classify the criminal cases filed against her and her sister in Mumbai in a Himachal Pradesh court. Kangana Ranaut and her sister Rangoli are facing trial in three criminal cases in Mumbai. As the trial in Mumbai could start, the petitioners could face a life-threatening crisis, so they have asked the Supreme Court to shift the cases to Himachal Pradesh. A criminal case is pending in a Mumbai court against Kangana and her sister Rangoli over the controversial tweet. Following Kangana’s controversial tweet, lawyer Ali Kashif Khan Deshmukh had filed a criminal complaint against Kangana Ranaut for trying to provoke quarrels between Hindus and Muslims. The judge then directed to file an FIR against Kangana and her sister in the Bandra Magistrate’s Court. Ali Kashif Khan Deshmukh, a lawyer, has filed a criminal complaint in the Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court alleging that Kangana Ranaut committed religious treason. He had sought registration of an FIR against the actress under sections 121, 124A, 153A, 153B, 295A, 298 and 505 of the Indian Penal Code.

In the second case, famous lyricist Javed Akhtar had filed a defamation suit against Kangana. Kangana had said that Javed Akhtar and Shabana Azmi were traitors. Kangana had defamed him. Akhtar had then filed a defamation suit against Kangana Ranaut in November 2020 through lawyer Jay Bhardwaj under sections 499 and 500 (defamation). Meanwhile, Kangana has now asked the Supreme Court to transfer all the cases to the Himachal Pradesh court.
