Mumbai, July 16: Noted filmmakers Shyam Benegal, Neena Gupta, Karisma Kapoor and Manoj Bajpayee among others paid tributes to three-time National Award-winning actress Surekha Sikri on Friday, describing her as one of the “finest talented” people in the entertainment industry. Sikri is known for her excellent performances in films like ‘Tamas’, ‘Mammo’, ‘Badhaai Ho’. He died of a heart attack in the morning at a hospital in the suburbs of Mumbai.
She was 75 years old. Benegal has worked with Sikri in ‘Mammo’, ‘Sardari Begum’ and ‘Zubaida’. He said that it was a pleasure to see Sikri acting. He said, “Sad to hear the news of his death. She was also a hugely successful actress in theatre. I had seen him act in plays in Delhi and that was the reason I started working with him. He did a great job in all my three films.

Benegal told PTI, “She was such a wonderful actress that whatever character was given to her, she used to make it her own. He played both sympathetic and non-sympathetic roles with equal vigor. She was a truly top-notch actress.
